i had to furnish photocopies of my IDs for the processing of certain documents.
when it comes to these things, i prefer to use my driver's license. it has a lot of personal data BUT the ID itself has an expiration date.
definitely there are many other factors at play but in its simplest form, unlike with permanent/lifetime IDs, in this case you are not giving someone a perpetual window for misuse.
