me:  'why doesn't my laptop detect my drive???'

i unplugged, replugged.
i changed ports.
i felt the drive for any vibration.
i put my ear close to listen to any sound.
i did a cold reboot.

nada.

i checked the cable.  ooops, it was the printer cable i plugged in my port.
